Midsummer Coronation 2005

17 - 19 June 2005, The Social Centre, Bishop Rd, Shurdington
Mundane name: Marc Brownett
SCA persona name: Dante Garrett Graywards
Job classes: thief, mercenary, shire constable/knight marshal, pirate, and mage of imagery.

The last court of Padraig and Elsa, and the coronation of their heirs and successors, Their Majesties Cadogan and Eufemia.

Dante’s “damn, I left this too long” report
Actually apart from mentioning how much water all the fighters constantly required due to the crazy heat wave, and how many times I was defeated in the tourney, the following reports and photos get to the main points. I shall conclude this small personal report by saying; “Coronation rocked.”

Genevieve la flechiere

Greetings from Genevieve,

Vivant to their Majesties Cadogan and Euphemia, crowned in an outdoor ceremony on the green, on the hottest and sunniest day so far this year in this part of Insulae Draconis. May the rest of their reign go as smoothly...but perhaps be held in the shade.

In their first court, Their Majesties did great honour to Insulae Draconis, choosing three residents of these isles to defend them upon the field of armoured combat and in the art of defense:

Queen's armoured combat champion: Lord Brand of Lough Devnaree
Queen's rapier champion: Lord Duarte Goncalves de Montes

King's armoured combat champion: Sir Wiglaf Wilfriding
King's rapier champion: Lord Antonio di Rienzo

Vivant to their Excellencies, Padraig and Elsa, count and countess of Drachenwald, who stepped down with many encouraging words for the people of the crown principality where they had both won Crown tournament and ended their reign.

(In the afternoon, many who attended this event were struck by the appearance of a young, clean-shaven knight of regal bearing, who bore an uncanny resemblance to the former king Padraig...

Vivant to the hard-working organizers of this weekend's coronation:

Thomas Flamanc (steward),
Siban ni Ghiolla Padraig (head cook), ably assisted by Johanna aff Hukka, who together produced a splendid feast and provided ample food for everyone,
Raphe Cuthbert and Ariel of Lindisfarne (registration and travel rustlers),
Caohmin McAindru and Mary verch Thomas (local contacts).

My own thanks to the enthusiastic singers who showed up to lend their voices as a gracious touch to the coronation ceremony.

One clarification to mention:

While many of the organizers of this event live in West Dragonshire, and WD sponsored the event, the event took place in the lands of Mynydd Gwyn, and would not have occurred without that shire's support.

Regards,

Genevieve la flechiere

Thomas Flamanc of Kelsale

Unto the populace of the fair Kingdom of Drachenwald does Lord Thomas Flamanc of Kelsale, Event steward send greetings.

Let it be known that I am extremely proud of all who came to this past coronation for the help that all put into the event. I was extremely impressed with the good humour of all of dealing with the inconviences of the weekend and generosity of the help that was offered.

My thanks goes especially to my Lady Siban and Mistress Johanna for their stirling work in the kitchen they excelled beyond all reasonable bounds given the limitations of the facilities.

There where many many others who helped who I won't list because I will be sure to miss someone. I am happy to say that in my time as an event steward I have seldom had the experience of so much help happily given. I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves none the less.

Huzzah to you all and Long live the King and Queen.

In service to you all.

Thomas Flamanc of Kelsale
