Name: Tephra Block Age: 64 Sex: Female Height: 5 Feet 7 Inches Build: Fairly slim. Skin Colour: Weather worn tan colour Eye Colour: Brown. Hair Colour/Style: sholder length grey/mouse brown hair, usually tied into a tight bun. Features: Some dark patches on skin due to age included large brown mark on her neck. Left or right handed: Right handed.
Personality; Tries to be friendly, but is very focused on her goals, and tends to become overly absorbed in whatever task is at hand. When not working, she is rather talkative. She can be manipulative, and will use others to get what she wants. Generally, she wants to take care of those around her, but only if this does not conflict with her interests.
Likes; History and geology. She is obsessed with her work. She enjoys telling stories of past expeditions. She also likes to cook and carve stone figures.
Dislikes; Being told she is wrong. Waiting. Being ‘interferred with’ when researching. The Holy Order of Andel.
Clothing; Used to travelling, Tephra wears simple, plain, hard wearing clothes, cut close to the skin aside from a warm winter cloak which can be easily removed when passing through areas of thick undergrowth where clothes are likely to snag. She tends to feel cold even in warm climates, and dresses accordlingly. She wears sturdy boots on her feet. On each wrist, she wears matching green stone bracelets which she carved herself, and uses to harness earth magic, based on similar items she excavated on a dig when she was a girl. Around her neck is a delicate silver necklace, a gift from her mother. She carries a large dagger at her hip, and a medium sized brown sachel which contains a few herbs and creams, along with other small items she would not like to be without.
Weapons: Not much of a fighter, the dagger Tephra carries is more for practical applications than for defence, but she always keeps it sharp and would not hesitate to use it on people if she felt in some way threatened. Tephra is more skilled at avoiding danger than confronting it, and uses a combination of magic and herb-craft to keep herself (and others she may be with) hidden from enemies, a technique she learned during her reasearch. If confrontation is unavoidable, she would try to talk her way out of any danger, protecting her own interests before others. If cornered, her experience and knowledge of magic would assist her, but though she is skilled, she lacks the energy to attack for long.
Background: Tephra comes from a family of archaeologists, and her ancestors are among those attributed with the rediscovery of magic. Like her mother and father, Tephra has devoted her life to unlocking new secrets lost from ancient times, and for some time has been obsessed with the idea that she will be the first to learn how to harness the magic of fire, an element that has, as yet, escaped the abilities of her people. As a young woman, she was greatly respected by her country, and even fought in a few skirmishes with other countries, and was considered valuable. However, as she aged, and failed to reach her goal of mastering fire magic, she became jaded, angry, and disheartened with her country and her life. She started craving power for herself, and fell into disrepute. She travelled far and wide after that, and learned many things, but nothing satisfied her. Eventually, she returned home, where she made peace with her people and earned back their respect by sharing some of her discoveries and skills. Today, she continues to work as an archaeologist, her experience causing her to be send out to various places of interest, which satisfies her own curiosity. She has recently been sent north, to look at ruins there she feels may hold the secret to fire magic.
Abilities: Though experienced at all currently understood elements of magic, Tephra feels an affinity for earth magic, which she favours over all others. The bracelets she wears are designed to store large amounts of earth energy, which she uses in various different ways, depending on the situation. In battle, she has used earth magic to disturb the ground her enemies stood on, and cause rocks to tumble from any loose ground above, though this was very exhausting, and would weaken her to the point where she was defenceless. She also is knowledgeable about herb-craft, which she can use to heal or hurt as she chooses. Some suspect that her ability to deceive and manipulate may have its routes in magic, but if so, she keeps this secret.
(hope this is okay. Let me know if anything needs changing or whatever)
