[091 - 2010] Guest strip #005

Comic #090 has been hijacked!
Due to my time away, Tiggs heard my call and bashed out a guest strip! Hooray! As you can see it’s basically a modification of the previous comic (flick back and forth between them to see all the little changes, it’s fun lol). Thanks again Tiggs! This comic will also be added to the guest strip page on the website along with the others. Random note: I was gonna upload all this yesterday, but then my area had a power-cut, MAI-2 fell down went boom.

I'd had the idea the moment someone (probably at work) mentioned the replication of data, and when Maku was asking about guest strips. It was originally just going to have the Kiki-warp.

I wasn't actually initially intending to re-use the immediately preceding strip, but it not only had the Kiki-warp but not only a computer avatar but the avatar of a aflippin' hard drive. And on a totally blank background. So it just became the obviously one to go for.

[092 - 2000] Disgustingly cute

Re-wrote the script for this one (and the following few) several times. It’s troublesome how I have to keep re-writing my own old scripts due to them not ‘flowing’ right after looking back at them.
I did the rough sketches for this comic one night but I wasn’t happy with them. However, they must have grown on me as I simply hard-pencilled over them the following night and changed very little (though I felt some looked better beforehand but they wouldn’t have scanned very well). I didn’t draw them in sequence though (because I forgot I was gonna start with a close-up), so lots of cut/pasting had to be done.
I think there’s some cute-overload going off in this one, especially with Shiro and Lapin. I think the final expressions look insane and they made me grin as I drew them.
The phrase “disgustingly cute” was from me misremembering how other players/characters described Lapin upon meeting him in a ‘Teenagers from Outer Space’ RPG I played. After looking back over the logs, it was actually “ridiculously cute” and “horribly cute”, but ah well, fit’s Kuro’s thoughts fine as he hates ‘cute’ stuff.
This was gonna be one of the early spin-off comics featuring just the mascot characters. I still don’t know if I’m gonna end up doing that since the scripts can be adapted for the normal comic pages. Actually, for now, tell you what, they’ll be merged into this comic. Hopefully this will mean I’ll be able to upload comics more frequently as they’ll be (at least a bit) quicker to produce. So here we go, this is the first of the quickies with little or no backgrounds or inking… no panels either by the looks. Hope you like it anyway, tell me what you think ^_^

Hmmm, I would say for future though that you should maybe think of some sort of 'panelling' even if just by adding a few scruffy (no need to be perfect) lines or something, since it's a little tricky to follow and could do with a tiny bit of eye guidance. Hee, just out of curiosity, I drew craptastic lines on myself, and it looks a little less awesome but much easier to read.



Disgustingly cute is right! I love the way Lapin looks in the third none panel space (when he's looking up at Kuro all scared but curious like.

There is a chance I may slightly update this comic with just that. In the end I kept shifting the dialogue around to make sure it flowed in the correct order by how the eye moves text-to-text.
It was originally going to have at least some rough pencilled dividers but then I ended up drawing the images out of sequence ^^;
If I had a tablet I could just quickly sketch them in directly but I’m sure I can come up with something.

T'was very silly, I printed and scanned my own comic after drawing the rough lines in-between like I originally planned (before I drew the comic in the wrong order).

[093 - 2000] Kuro vs Lapin

What’s this? The evil and cunning Kuro has just been owned by the clueless and useless Lapin? I’m not even sure if it was self-defensive or not, the spabbit was probably just hungry. Couldn’t think of a title so kinda mirrored the one from comic #71. Done in just pencil again and in order this time so that the dividers could be sketched in straight away. The original concept for this story arc was drawn on Morrisons’ till receipt paper from when I worked there in my uni days, I was obviously bored :p
